Are We Human or Timeless, or Both?
My hand prepares to close the door for the last time on this trip to Chicago. I wave quietly to mom as I turn out the light for her to sleep in her room at the senior village. I step out the door and suddenly, I’m at 30,000 feet with billowy white clouds floating silently below as the plane glides through the vast sky.
Then, as if by magic, blades of grass flow between my toes as I walk barefoot through Central Park Sunday afternoon. And next, mysteriously my fingers aretyping these words to you. Somehow, each of these events occur with seemingly no passage of time between. How can this be?
After traveling for 20 years flying through countless billowy clouds around this planet for my work, I have begun to simply plan on the experience of sitting in a plane seat going one direction and clearly knowing that suddenly, I’d be returning in another plane seat as if no passage of time occurred. Is this possible – and is this familiar to you? Also are events happening so fast that time seems to be speeding up?
Is it possible that time is actually an imagined ghostly structure and the true reality is the timeless background upon which it, and all life, appears?
If so, then it makes sense that for many of us the past seemingly-solid-belief of time may be giving way to the deeper truth of spacious timelessness that, beneath all, is the true fabric of life and thus, the gossamer veil of our very own existence.
Then finally, perhaps we can put our feet up, lay back, live life fully, love, laugh, feel our fears and passions, be exquisitely human, while all along realizing that behind this veil is that which is untouched and at divine rest. Close your eyes and be interested in THIS and soon feel embraced by its arms: Your own deepest nature, expressed as your beautifully unique humanness and simultaneously untouched by all. A paradox? No. The ultimate understanding.
