Who Are We if More Than Our Thinking?

I write this in response to many clients’ questions about what happens as we wake up to a deeper nature of being, beyond our preoccupation with thoughts and beliefs. Who are we without them? Enjoy …

Along one’s path of awakening many approaches may come and go. In the end, any spiritual practice or experience in life may be the momentary portal to the life-changing glimpse beyond what we’ve believed true about ourselves and life. This glimpse reveals the reality behind life’s multitude of seemingly separate parts – a pristine oneness as the essential substance of all, including ourselves.

This can be called Self-realization or the realization of the one Self. Then begins the true work – the integration of this new seeing into one’s daily personal life. This entails honestly facing and then letting go of, or seeing through, our habits of behavior and beliefs about life and self. As these unconscious habits dissolve with time, an expanded sense of being is the natural result. The entertainment value of life’s drama – as viewed prior – loses it’s attraction and is replaced by more relaxation and celebration of living. We can accept every aspect of our humanness, but we see them no longer as the essence of who we are – simple and unbound presence itself.

From here we can live our lives; making decisions, loving, working, creating, even struggling, but with less and less emotional attachment to outcomes or external sources for our sense of self and well being. This is true freedom. And it is yours for the knowing. Life is short, hold back no longer. Dive in.
