Spiritual Awakening and Letting Go / The Sedona Method

Have you ever wondered if living a spiritually awakened life in the middle of this chaotic world is even possible with its injustice, greed, war, and more? Have you ever wondered what spiritual awakening really means? Does it mean you have no more emotions; you have to wear orange wrap-around clothes; you never get mad or upset; you only love everyone; you accept everything; and most importantly you have to move to a mountain top in India? (I’m one of four Sedona Method educators and instructors in the world.)

Perhaps, but only perhaps, there have been souls since the beginning of time, who have remained in a transcendent state never reactive to life with emotions, stress, frustration or sadness. My bet? I doubt many. I will tell you why, and why my answer can point to your emotional well being and your freedom.

First, what is awakening? In short, it is waking up from sleep. The sleep that includes dreaming. Dreaming that who you are is based on your past (which no longer exists), your emotions (which come and go), your thoughts (which appear and disappear) or anything of this world that is temporary. To base your identity, your happiness, or our safety on objects or people that come and go or who change moods, is to set yourself up for never-ending disappointment. Is this familiar?

Then what do we base our sense of well being on, if not on the external world? The answer has to do with who you think you are. Let’s do an experiment.

Look at these words on this screen. When you reflect on this action, you are aware that your eyes are resting on this page. This awareness needs nothing different, nothing healed from its past, nothing altered in this moment, nothing to be changed in order for it to be. This awareness, this presence of awareness is you, not bound by any limitation. Rest here in this possibility, for one moment. Perhaps lower those shoulders and breathe.

The mind? Oh yes, the mind will object loudly with many arguments. But return only for this second to now – your eyes and awareness on this page. Can there be sensations or feelings present too? Absolutely, they are waves of the ocean and must be fully allowed, but they are not your totality. You are that which is aware of them within you. You remain the infinite ocean, whether waves arise or not.

The task is not to be emotions-free, but to unconditionally allow feelings, yet not necessarily act on them nor identify them as the totality of who you are. Allow them while knowing the pure awareness that is simultaneously present. If this dissolves the feelings, fine. If not, there are ways to let them go consciously.

Since 1987, I’ve personally used and taught The Sedona Method worldwide. It’s a powerful inner process of waking up to subconscious behaviors and beliefs and letting them go, or seeing through them as based in old realities that no longer exist. This reveals a pristine sense of presence with a clearer mind and a new aliveness in this very moment, needing nothing different in order to relax or breathe. THEN from this moment, clearer and more effective action can take place, if needed.
